Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I register debt.....?

For Originators:  You obtain the benefits of a GPS tracking system on every account through our electronic chain of title verification and the opportunity to distribute media validated downstream buyers.  Should a buyer in the chain close its doors, GDR can carry on to deliver media to downstream owners via the GDR chain of title.

For Resellers:  You can verify previously registered data and conduct an account-level portfolio data integrity review prior to the sale.  This ensures data accuracy which reduces post-sale liability and costs.  Additionally, you can reduce liability by conducting sales in a manner which adheres to the PCI-DSS technical standards developed by American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard and Visa.

For Buyers: We provide a valid Chain of Title for ownership and debt validation requests. This immediately enhances your collection or legal strategy. Also, a single point of contact for media requests and key account data validation equates to higher liquidation rates on registered pools vs un-registered ones.

For All:  You can spend less time on mitigating risk and more time maximizing revenue!

  • How does GDR help me reduce my regulatory and reputational risks?

Absolutely.  Please take a moment to review GDR's response to the recent Bear Stearns/EMC settlement

  • Can you provide media for validation and those seeking judgements?

Absolutely.  We can deliver media directly to second, tert, quant owners and beyond via the PCI Data Exchange because we validate the authentic chain of ownership prior to delivery.  If you own the account and the media is available, you can receive it in 72 hours or less.

  • What kind of media can you deliver?

Signed contracts, Statements, Cardholder Agreements, Affidavits, etc.  The goal of Global Debt Registry's media management solution is to answer the call of consumers, consumer advocates, and judges nationwide by providing validation of ownership and authentication of key account data elements, which in turn, establishes accurate monetary indebtedness for the consumer.

  • Do we require your contracts or bills of sale to register debt?

No.  We ask buyer and seller to electronically sign our authentic Transfer of Ownership Report to validate the transaction.  The authoritative signed original is stored in our vault and copies can be obtained by either party at any time.

  • Will the registry hold up or slow down my sale?

No.  Our goal is to have nearly a zero footprint on the time requirements to transfer ownership.  Transfers have a scheduled closing date and signatures from buyer and seller can be done any time prior to closing.  The time to sign a Transfer of Ownership is less than 5 minutes.

  • Can I use the registry to transfer the sale file to my buyer?

Yes.  We built the PCI Data Exchange to securely transfer account information over electronic networks.  Once we record the transfer ownership on the portfolio, we can also make the file available to the new owner.

  • Are originators or upstream members of the chain involved in downstream deals?

No.  Unless an existing contract stipulation states otherwise, the authenticated seller and the identified buyer are the only participants in the transfer of ownership for a portfolio.

  • Is Global Debt Registry a debt broker?

No.  GDR is a clearinghouse for chain of title and media management.  GDR does not broker, buy, or sell debt nor does GDR require any participants to buy or sell any differently than they do today. GDR is simply a value enhancement process similar to what is found in the housing and automobile markets.
